Biography
Born in 1980, Yves Chauris graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he was awarded three First Prizes. His work quickly attracted attention: he received several grants and awards, including the Fondation Francis and Mica Salabert Prize (2005), the Pierre Cardin Prize for musical composition (2008), and the Hervé Dugardin Prize (2019, SACEM).
From 2008 to 2010, Yves Chauris was a member of the artistic section of the French Academy in Madrid, and he was a resident at Villa Kujoyama (Japan) in 2011.
At the invitation of Renaud Capuçon, he took part in the 2020 Nouveaux Horizons Festival in Aix-en-Provence.
His music has been performed by the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Les Siècles, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, and ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, L’Itinéraire, At Musica, Sillages, as well as by soloists and conductors including Jean-Guihen Queyras, Bertrand Chamayou, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Nicolas Hodges, Lorenzo Soulès, François-Xavier Roth, Pablo Heras-Casado, Nicholas Collon, and Tito Ceccherini — in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Ars Musica in Brussels, Festival Présences Radio France, Musica Strasbourg, La Roque-d’Anthéron, the Philharmonie de Paris, and Donaueschinger Musiktage (Germany).
He is currently working on a violin concerto and a piece for santur and orchestra.
Yves Chauris teaches composition at the Conservatoire of Cergy-Pontoise and contemporary music knowledge at the pedagogy department of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP). He also supervises the Young Women Composers Academy of the Paris Chamber Orchestra.
